Workshop: High Performance Culture Review

This spring, Speed Skating Canada conducted a proactive review of the organization’s culture and Safe Sport practices within our High Performance training environment. This workshop will present recommendations for improving our sport’s culture based on the findings of data collected through focus groups, interviews and an online survey. Workshop participants will be invited to provide feedback on the recommendations and to begin reflecting on how proposed changes can be implemented within their own role in the speed skating community.

Keynote Presentation: Universal Code of Conduct

The Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) was designed on behalf of Canada’s national sport community to ensure a safe and welcoming sport environment for all. During this keynote presentation, Debra Gassewitz, CEO of the Sport Information Resource Centre, will empower participants from throughout the speed skating community with knowledge about the UCCMS and how its coordinated implementation strategy will help prevent and address maltreatment across all levels of the Canadian sport system.

Formal AGM: Speed Skating Canada’s 2021 Annual General Meeting

Speed Skating Canada holds as annual general meeting wherein all matters of a general policy nature in variance with the bylaws of the association must be brought before and voted upon as well as the election of the Board of Directors. This meeting allows Speed Skating Canada’s Board of Directors to report to its members on activities of the previous year. Together, we will take full advantage of the virtual AGM to review our triumphs and challenges during the unique 2020-21 season and to look toward a strong future for our sport once the pandemic eases.

Workshop: Athlete Development Pathway

In consultation with focus groups and stakeholders from our community, Speed Skating Canada is developing a modernized Athlete Development Pathway, with a particular focus on the technical and tactical elements of the Athlete Development Matrix and Gold Medal Profile. Workshop participants will receive a preview of the revised pathway and be invited to engage in discussion about how Speed Skating Canada and our broader community can bring the pathway to life through resources and tools that will align athlete development across the country.
